Biography

With over 12 years of experience in kitchen design, my work is grounded in creating spaces that feel lived-in, loved, and deeply connected to the people who call them home. I began my design journey studying interiors abroad, later completing a kitchen and bathroom diploma here in Aotearoa—an experience that shaped both my aesthetic and my values.

My name is Tawhiti. I’m a Māori woman and designer, named after my great-grandmother—a name that carries deep meaning and connects me to generations of strong wāhine and to the land we call home. It’s this sense of whakapapa and belonging that guides the way I design. I feel a strong responsibility to create homes that reflect not only the people who live in them, but also the beauty and identity of Aotearoa itself.

My design philosophy is simple: create warm, honest spaces that evolve with the people living in them. I gravitate toward natural materials that age beautifully—celebrating the imperfections and character that come with time. Sustainability is central to my work. I design for longevity, not landfill, and choose products and finishes made to wear in—not out.

I also work closely with local craftspeople and makers whose skill, creativity, and connection to place enrich every space. Their work brings heart and authenticity—tying each home more closely to our land and community.

As a mum, I understand the importance of creating spaces that support family life—spaces that are flexible, comforting, and designed for real living. Whether it's a kitchen that becomes the soul of your home or a quiet corner for slow mornings, I design with feeling, function, and future in mind.

This isn’t about chasing trends or creating perfection. It’s about designing homes that feel real—homes that grow with you.
